Reformatting encryoted drive? (Erasing mbr does not work)

Hi all. I am really desperate. Some time ago I got a laptop decomissioned by my company. It had safeguard easy installed on it. Of course the problems started when i tried to reinstall the operating system. Windows installers cannot access the device. I went through all the online sources and learned that wiping the MBR and repartitioning should help. I did that and it did not work. Windows installer still cannot access the device properly. So please tell me, is there any way to actually reformat the drive or the only option i have is replacing it?

  • Hi Flap,

even with SafeGuard Easy / Enterprise installed to encrypt the harddisk, you would be able to re-install windows on the machine. Depending on your needs, you might need to wipe the MBR before you proceed with the Operating System installation.

... anyway - do you know how your company de-comissioned the disk inside the machine? Some companies make use of physically decomissioning (EMPs / drills)  rather then just erasing cryptographic areas.

I'd suggest to check if the BIOS of the machine still picks up the disk information. If not, replace your the disk of the machine with a new one.
