Need Help on Installing Safeguard Easy

Hi there,

I am trying to install Safeguard Easy on laptop that is running Windows 2008 R2 SP1. I keep getting an error message that you must run Windows XP or 7 SP1......Does it support Windows 2008 R2?

Thanks,

  • Hello JCSophos,

the encryption client is only available for desktop operating systems, not servers.

  • Im just wondering, is there already or will be there a solution to encrypt servers as well?

  • Hello pbdwd,

    a solution to encrypt servers

when talking about encryption you have to differentiate between disk/volume encryption and file/folder/share encryption. The former not only protects the data but (together with POA) prevents access to the OS as well, strictly speaking it completely hides the OS, this is mainly important in cases where the physical device is accessed by an unauthorized third party.  As far as servers are concerned a common scenario would be inappropriate decommissioning of storage devices (although break-in and theft a possible I'd rule out loss:smileywink:) - OTOH using POA for a server is kinda challenge. Another problem are shared (accessed by several servers) storage devices or systems. It's preferable to leave the encryption to either the device(s) or the applications (e.g. databases). All this together doesn't really make a business case for an OS-integrated full disk encryption.

    Just my two cents though
