Workstation is locked, no challenge code

Hello,

On one of my machines, i've got a message that workstation is locked, but challenge code is invisible. When I input user name and domain and press Recovery button, computer domain and computer name fields are empty - only user name and computer name are filled by the data inputed on previous screen.

  • Secadm,

This sounds like the Sophos core is corrupt. This can happen in certian situations, I cannot exactly say what the specific issue is that you have came accross but it can be isolated to the user cache that is used to remember users and other information critical to the log in service.

Best way to go at this point is to use the PE recovery disc that can be found in the KB articles: http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/108805.aspx and use Key recovery to get around the encryption to recover the files if any off the encrypted partition.

After that is done you will want to run Killdisk or something similar to get that Hard drive clean of encryption and anything else. and do a OS install followed by the Sophos encryption again. Make sure to do prevenitive scans such as Chkdsk to make sure the hard drive is ok to go with no errors. If you are still having this issue even after reinstall, It would be best to get Sophos support involved:  https://doc.sophos.com/support/help/en-us/contact/index.html
