SafeGuard Fileshare encryption and Microsoft DFS

Hello,

We're looking at upgrading to 6.1 and I came across the following in the release notes:

Defining FileShare encryption rules for a domain DFS is not possible

We use DFS widely at my organization and although our use of file share encryption is pretty limited at the moment we plan to expand its use greatly in the near future and this concerns me.  The line above makes me think we can't encrypt file shares based using their DFS path.  Can someone confirm this or am I misunderstanding?  In the previous version (6.00.1), configuring file share encryption policies to encrypt DFS shares works fine.

Thanks,

Tim

  • There has been no change regarding DFS between 6.0 and 6.1

To make full use of DFS you would need to enter the FQDN. This was not possible in 6.0 and is not possible in 6.1. This is the reason for the statement.

Using DFS somewhat restricted by using the hostname or a defined folder was possible and is still possible.
