Sophos poa screen freezes after being idle overnight

Atleast a handful of employees have reported this issue since receiving Windows 7 and Sophos Safeguard. Our company never experienced this issue while using Windows XP.

If the affected user restarts their computer before going home for the night they will arrive to work the next morning and the Sophos poa login screen is frozen. They cannot click or type in the username or password fields. They are forced to do a hard shutdown, after doing this they can login fine.

Two employees are using Windows 7 64-bit and another employee is using Windows 7 32-bit. The 2 employees who are running 64-bit Windows 7 using Toshiba A11 laptops and the 32-bit user uses a Toshiba M5 laptop.  I've checked the known issues and searched through the forums but I have not found anyone else with a similiar problem. The Sophos hotkeys will not help in this situation as the computer is already sitting at the Sophos poa login screen upon arrival in the morning. Please assist.

  • Hi sgroff,

we are aware of the POA freeze problem that occurs if you leave the POA in the credentials window (freeze does not occur in the fingerprint authentication window). This issue is internally logged under ref:DEF85156 and is planned to be fixed in a future release of SafeGuard.

In the meantime, as a workaround you could try to enable fingerprint authentication (as the freeze has not been seen with fingerprint authentication window at poa) if machines have to run over night but I would recommend to shutdown the machines instead of rebooting at the evening.

    Thank you!
