USB Encryption

I have encrypted a USB and when I then plug the usb into a machine without safegaurd it asks me for the password and I can then access the files, however if i then plug into a machine with Safeguard installed it asks for the password but then says access denied you do not have permission to open the file.  Am I missing something really simple?

  • Hi BLD,

thank you very much for raising this one and welcome to the forum.

With regards to your description it unfortunately contains very little information but I will anyway try to provide you with some further information.

I assume that you are talking about accessing files using SGPortable in both cases. When using SGPortable please remember that the tool should not be used on a machine that has SafeGuard Enterprise installed.

In case that you want to use a file that has been encrypted with SafeGuard Enterprise but on a different machine please try to use the import key from file function in order to load the key into the users key ring. Further information can be found in KBA 108591 (http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/108591.html)

In case that you are using the Media Passphrase feature please be so kind and make sure the SafeGuard Enterprise machine has Media Passphrase enabled in order to read all files.

Should these steps not solve the issue please be so kind and get back providing information about the version in use and the exact steps where you are entering the password.

    Thank you very much!

    Regards

    Dan
