safeguard IS SAFE ?

I'm checking and I see that safeguard as an encryption solution uses bitlocker, a tool that incorporates windows to encrypt this tool if it is secure, what sophos does through this is administer bitlocker

according to this article is not and if I buy this solution with sophos I would have great doubts

  • Hi - That's quite an old article to be honest, but if you do enough digging you'll find holes in any/all security products. If people have the time and resources - anything that's been designed to be secure can be "un-designed" to be less secure!

That said, BitLocker is a good standard, likewise FileVault2. Sophos simply manages these in later versions of SafeGuard and although there have been flaws/concerns Sophos have been quite prompt to patch their own issues.

It was only a few months back that the firmware on many SSD's was found to be insecure - bypassing BitLocker altogether. This wasn't as such even Microsoft's fault either, but an issue with the manufacturers of the SSD drives.

So nothing is 100% secure and effective IMO. It's about weighing up what can be acknowledged and what can be mitigated with other solutions.
