Window 10 - Uninstalling Safeguard Bitlocker failing as boot volume is encrypted

I am trying to remove Safeguard from a Windows 10 Surface Pro 3 (as I am trying to install without having to use TPM + Pin as the Surface doesn't recognise it having a pre-boot keyboard).

When unistalling the SafeGuard client I get the error message:

"The uninstallation is being cancelled. Bitlocker support cannot be unistalled as long as a boot volume is encrypted. Error: 25804"

As the encryption hasn't begun as the keyboard is not recognised there doesn't seem a way to control Bitlocker from the OS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Liamcoakley,

It sounds like you have not set up proper decryption and uninstallation policies for Safeguard. You need to apply a decryption policy to the machine before turning off BitLocker / uninstalling Safeguard.

You can run through the KB article below, it outlines creating a decrypt & uninstall policy.

  • The one thing I have noticed when upgrading is that you cannot add new features when upgrading to version 7. if you have configuration protection installed this might be the cause of the issue. It isn't included in version 6.1 and above so would need to be removed.

Try removing configuration protection and then upgrading to version 7.

Let us know how you get on.
