[Sophos Advisory]: Sporadic Local Cache corruptions on clients with SafeGuard 8.10 file encryption installed.

Hi All,

We are currently investigating an issue with sporadically occurring Local Cache corruptions on systems running SafeGuard 8.10 file encryption (all file encryption modules affected).

So far this seems to be limited to very few systems, the shared similarities are:

  • At least one SafeGuard 8.10 file encryption module installed (pure BitLocker clients and previous versions of SafeGuard are not affected).
  • Windows 10 only
  • The trigger for the Local Cache corruption seems to be around a synchronization with the SafeGuard Server.
  • When the SafeGuard Tracing gets enabled the issue does not occur any longer.
  • Standard factors for Local Cache corruptions e.g. not excluding the Local Cache from AV scan, have been ruled out.

Symptoms:

  • Unexpected shutdown during normal usage
  • In the SafeGuard Management Center you find reports of event 2023 "The LocalCache was corrupted and has been restored"

More information and workaround available here.
