Autologon will continue shortly......it never does

I've just installed the pre-install package and the safeguard client v 8.10 on a windows 7 PC. On reboot the safeguard screen appears and the message 'Autologon will continue shortly' it just freezes at this point and never progresses.

I've got 2 other test PC's running happily but hit this issue on the 3rd and its making me reluctant to roll out live. Anyone know firstly, how to recover from this position, and secondly why it might happen and how to resolve it ? Not had a lot of luck googling it.

Thanks

Steve

  • Hi Steve - Are all three laptops the same spec and hardware?

  • For anyone else hitting this issue, Sophos support provided the resolution as below.

    1. Start the computer.

    1. Before the Power On Self Test (POST) completes, press and hold the left Shift

    1. When the message Shift key has been pressed. Waiting for Hotkey...displays, press the hotkey of your choice. You must do this within 5 seconds.

    1. When you have chosen your hotkey (F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, or F9), you will see a confirmation message that the hotkey has been accepted. You can activate only one hotkey for each reboot.

For example (in this case F9 was chosen):

    Sophos SafeGuard is starting.

    Please wait.....

Shift key has been pressed. Waiting for Hotkey....

    Toggle ACPI/APIC Support!

     try Shift+F6
It should  Toggled ATA compatibility mode and booted into Windows.

  • Hi Michael

Thanks for replying, they were all different. I've just updated with the resolution.
