Destroying file based encryption with notepad

How do I prevent notepad from destroying file based encryption files?

All a user would have to do is open the file on a system that doesn't have Sophos installed and open it with notepad and overwrite the contents.

As QC said, the issue here is your permissions/security really - not a Sophos encryption issue. What you suggest would be possible with any file and format if the permissions and security allowed it?
