Has anyone installed a Sophos XG onto a Fibre to the Node (FTTN) service on Australia's NBN?
What was your experience like?

Just recently successfully setup the Sophos VDSL Module on a TPG NBN FTTN business connection (this uses statically set IP address/gateway on VLAN 100). It should work with PPPoE and IPoE as well. We used a Sophos XG 106, the VDSL module is port 4 in the Sophos GUI (the SFP slot is shared with Ethernet Port 4)
The Sophos module does support the standards NBN requires.

Might I ask what you put for username and password under PPPoE setting to get your IPoE NBN FTTN w/ Vlan ID 100 working? We have an XG125 with a VDSL module, if I follow the instructions and change interface 9 for VDSL I have to choose connection style PPPoE, as there is no VDSL option under DHCP or Static.

You may need to put a dummy IP address temporarily on port 4 first before it'll let you add a VLAN to it.
Hi SRW,
Thanks for coming back. Really appreciate it.
Just to be clear, your saying that regardless of what the GUI says, by lacking a "Enable VDSL" option like that one your see under PPPoE, if I have an SFP module installed in the unit, and edit the appropriate interface, set it to DHCP with vLAN itll work correctly? Looking forward to testing tomorrow.
Irritating I can't get that exact answer from Sophos partner support... You can see the response I got below.

Hello Paul,
This is regarding your service request number 9249151
We do have support for PPPoE, but unfortunately we don't support IPoE. You need to add the username and password to work.
This can be a feature request and you can share your idea over https://ideas.sophos.com/ .
Please let me know if you have any more query regarding the same.
Yeah, you don't need to worry about the VDSL options when using IPoE (set the interface to use DHCP) or statically setting the IP (set it statically like you would normally). Just make sure that the config you do on the interface is on the correct VLAN for your ISP (Add Interface > Add VLAN)
Let me know how you go, I've configured it for two different sites now. One had a statically set IP address on their FTTN connection (TPG Business using VLAN 100), the other is using IPoE/DHCP on their FTTN connection (Telstra with no VLAN/native VLAN).

Hi SRW,
I have been looking at this thread and noticed you have setup FTTN on Telstra.
I have been trying to setup the XG125 with the VDSL module on port 9 (SFP). I have a static IP from Telstra, and i have tried setting static and also DHCP on Port 9 but with no success. You mentioned that Telstra do not need VLAN/native VLan, did you attach a VLAN on port 9 interface and left VLAN as 1 to get this working or you did not attach any VLAN interface to the port.
This is the only thing i have not tried which is adding a VLan interface to the DSL module. In the VLAN interface do you select DHCP or Static for telstra?
Thanks,
Regards,
AW
I don't believe Telstra uses VLAN's for their FTTN service(unless that's changed recently), so don't configure an VLAN on the interface.
You'll need to check with Telstra on whether to statically set the IP, if so set it there. If not (ie they're using IPoE or DHCP), set it to DHCP. If Telstra are using DHCP/IPoE for the connection, you may be having an issue with the DHCP leases (ie, it's still tied to the old modem plugged in), if this is the case you may need to wait a while for the old lease to expire or call Telstra and see if they can clear it for you
