Suppress Popups on End-Client for AV Update 'Errors'

Using SEC 5.5.1 with Exploit Protection.  Every time the Exploit Protection needs to be updated, it requires a restart (usually about once a month).  The problem is that it interrupts the normal AV update process with an error, which pops up for the end user, and then they call us.   I'd like to just suppress it so they don't see the pop-up, but the error is still reported to SEC.

Time: 10/2/2018 14:38:27
Message: ERROR: The computer must be restarted before product Sophos HitmanPro Alert can be installed
Module: ALUpdate

Ideally, if the product can be changed so when Exploit Protection needs a restart that the error doesn't come up, that would work too.    When the AV portion of the product requires a restart, it doesn't prompt the user with an error, it just finishes quietly.

Any thoughts?   Thx!

  • Hello jdobiash,

my log is from December. Likely the error popped up but I can't verify (and I definitely don't remember).
It is as far as I can see by design that a pending reboot because of a software update turns into an error when there is a subsequent definition update for HitmanPro.Alert. I assume this is deliberate and not an oversight so you'd likely have to make a good case for this to be changed.
