Remove Encryption - Safeguard Enterprise

Hi guys!!

I have the following scenario: a Windows Xp Professional SP3 with the SGN client installed. I've made a policy for encryption of the c: and d: volumes. The encryption was set to use the machine key.

Question: I would like to know how we remove the encryption of the volumes. I've tried to change the policy to "No Encryption" but it didn't change anything. Is there any tool for booting and remove the encryption like in Safeguard Easy?

I really appreciate any help!!

Happy new year!!

  • You mentioned that in the case an re-image is needed it would be best to keep the source encrypted, right?

Is their an imaging tool that you would recommend for that procedure or any step by step guide available?

When i tried to do an dirve image to another disk i got lot's of issues to to the "damaged sectors" in which Safeguard stores the keys.

  • Dave,

I read the following post to ssij about decrypting drives locally...

On the workstation you want to decrypt, go to My Computer which displays the drive letters and icons. Right-click on the volume you want to decrypt. Click on the 'Encryption' tab added by SGN. The 'Media encrypted' check box should now be enabled. Unselect the checkbox, click 'OK' or 'Apply' and watch the drive decrypt.
On my local machine I am unable to uncheck the "Media encrypted" box.  The option is grayed out on my machine.  I am still running Safeguard 5.50.0.116 (I haven't made the upgrade to 5.50.8) on windows 7.  Also, the license that I have is the one being sold to ING Financial Reps last year, where everything is installed and run locally.  I dont have a management center, and nothing is installed on a server.   Therefore I would not be able to set a policy that would allow myself access to uncheck the box.

I was trying to decrypt my drives because I need to completely remove Sophos from my machine and switch to a different encryption software.  Can you please help me proceed.
