This article provides details on how we categorize PUA/Adware detections and how to provide us with the information we need to determine if a re-categorization is required.
Applies to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
Not product specific
When categorized PUA/Adware detections are believed to be possibly in error we recommend to send in a sample for our labs to review.
When classifying applications, Sophos also takes into consideration a set of objective criteria which has been agreed upon by leading security vendors regarding monetizing software to determine if an application is deceptive. These criteria are located at the Unwanted Software Criteria section below.
Please review our list of Unwanted Software Criteria. It contains information on why we make the detections we do for Deceptors which is a common reason for why we may have made the detection on what may appear to be a legitimate file. To get further information on the file you may send a sample submission using the link below: https://secure2.sophos.com/en-us/support/submit-a-sample.aspx If you have already created a case for this inquiry you should reference it during sample submission. Please provide details on why you believe the detection should be changed, as this will assist us with resolution.
