When trying to send a text message to an iPad the error 'Phone number not found: Error code -17' occurs. As the iPad does not have a SIM card, is it possible to send a text message to this device?

The reason for this error is, that the Sophos Mobile Control (SMC) iOS app is not installed on the iPad.
To successfully send a message to an iOS device without a SIM card follow these steps:
Once the app was successfully installed, the user must allow the app to receive Push Notifications.
After following these steps, you can send out text messages to the iPad. These messages will be displayed in the SMC app after clicking on the Notification shown on the device.
