XG Home Edition Install

Hey all,

I'm in the middle of trying to install Sophos XG Home Edition.

I have the following download: SW-18.0.1_MR-1-Build396-396.iso

Using Rufus to image the ISO to USB.

Edited the boot sequence to USB first.

I load the USB and reboot the PC. I get a Sophos Firmware message and I select "Y" to continue. Install completes and a LOUD fur elise blasts out of my Dell Optiplex 3050 (very annoying by the way). I remove the USB and reboot the device. Next screen I see is 2 options: SFLoader and 18.0(whatever). The 18.(whatever) option just loops. The SFLoader states it can't find bootable media. Needless to say it's been utterly frustrating at best. I want to get Sophos to work but if it takes this long and it's this cumbersome, maybe this isn't for me.

Any last ditch thoughts and/or recommendations?

Minimums are very fulfilled. I have the onboard NIC and a 4 port Gigabit NIC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, what I cannot see from the DELL site is the boot mode for the optiplex? I assume all NICs are intel or 3com not intel 219 series? You need to install/boot in standard bios mode. Ian

1. How can I verify Intel 219 series?
2. Where do I change the install/boot bios mode?

Hi,

you change the boot mode in the BIOS. I would safely assume your quad card is not 219 based because the 219 series is for home/desktop PC etc.

Ive tried several iterations of boot mode (uefi, legacy, usb 1st, etc). I wouldn't assume the NIC is not 219. The Optiplex 3050 is a consumer grade PC.

Disable the onboard NIC in the BIOS and try again.

What type of disk are you using, you will need something like a SATA, but not a motherboard mounted disk.

Disabled onboard NIC.

Xpg nvme 128 GB swapped with samsung 250 GB ssd

I am running out of ideas, please try resetting the motherboard to defaults.

New development!

- disabled onboard nic

- sata 250 gb installed (removed nvme obviously)

Re-imaged the usb using balenaEtcher and moved the usb stick to the back of the unit (shouldn't matter, but hey why not). Looks like its working.

On to set up. I'm at the password prompt.

Man.. it shouldn't be this hard lol.

I find when using linux distros, etcher works well for creating the bootable usb. Ive had some issues with rufus
