Change WAN port to port1 before initial setup

Hello!

I want to install a virtual Sophos XG at a cloud provider and I am facing the following challenge:

At the provider Eth0 is always the WAN port. The public IP address is always assigned via DHCP. Eth1 and the following are always internal networks.

I have already tried a lot of things to change the configuration before the initial setup. It would be enough if the web interface is accessible via the WAN IP address, at least for the initial setup.

Is there any way I can change port2 to port1 (including zones) via the console and have DHCP assign the IP address of port1 (WAN)?

  • Do you have other Ports to access the Webadmin later?

Is this a "one time job" or do you have to do this multiple times?

You could change the IP of the Port1 via console to a static IP (The one you get). Then assign a default gateway to this IP.

This will make the Webadmin accessible, Then change the Interface on webadmin to WAN with DHCP.

  • I had also considered a third port for temporary internal access.

    This is a one-time installation.

I had already tried to configure the IP statically via the console. But apparently I can only configure private IP addresses on port1 via the console.

The following options would theoretically work:
    1. third port with private IP address
    2. WAN on port1, LAN on port2

How can I configure the IP address for a third port through the console, when I add a third port and then run the network configuration wizard, it only shows me port1 and port2 to configure?
