Sophos Connect VPN Client Automation

First off, I'm finding the documentation woefully inadequate for administrators attempting to install/configure this client in an automated/scripted fashion.

The reason for me making this post is to inquire how everyone might be handling installing the client with minimal user interaction. We were looking to provision machines WITH the connection profile applied to any users logging in on the system, but the SCX only applies to the user and not the system.

I've found that (feel free to correct me):

- You can slide in and import the *.scx file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Connect\import\ (though only as an administrator, obviously)
- While you can do the above during provisioning (typically a local system user), it won't apply to future users on that workstation.
- I see with 2.0 that a user can now double-click to import SCX files, but this doesn't provide much feedback to the user on what it actually did outside of flashing a black box (command prompt) to run an import command.

TLDR: We don't want users having to import a profile to get started when we send a laptop out the door. If imported profiles were system-wide, it would benefit us a lot.

  • Sophos Connect will automatically pick up the file in the Import Folder. You can verify this with a Sophos Connect installation. Simply move/copy a SCX file into this folder. It immediately disappear.
