SFOS V18 Initial Setup

i have been staging several XG units over the past few weeks, around a total of 50. Since the initial setup has begun installing SFOS V18, each firewall in the initial setup gets stuck at "updating firmware" and will not progress.

With the version prior to 18, once I got the confirmation for the configuration changes being applied, I was able to unplug the LAN network cable and move on to the next firewall while the previous one finishes the firmware update and reboot. Now since SFOS 18 has been trying to be applied during the initial setup, the firewalls will not upgrade the firmware and need to be manually rebooted and then need to restart the setup process again, which usually indicates that the firmware upgrade did happen, and we just need to apply the configuration again and reboot. The firmware update will not usually need to happen the second time as it seems to upgrade during the initial attempt, but never indicates this.

I have been looking at "updating firmware" spin for 15-30 minutes without going to the reboot step on just about every firewall I am staging. What happened?

  • Same issue here with 2 XG210 devices. Initial setup hangs, forcing a reboot with the button on the back confirms initial setup has failed. Walk through the setup again and the device will perform firmware update and completes initial setup.

Devices also came out of the box with 17.5.12 MR-1. Ends on 18.0.3 MR-3
