AP15 plugged into RED10 Issue

AP15 plugged into a RED10 does not show on the UTM under "Pending Access Points".  Is there a special procedure for setting up an AP15 plugged into a RED10????

  • Hi Matt,

Couple of quick questions that may lead to a fix:

    1. On your RED, have you set up the tunnel as Standard/Unified or Standard/Split? If Standard/Split you will need to direct the IP address 1.2.3.4 as part of the split networks as this is the magic IP used by the APs to tell the UTM it exists.
    2. If you are in Standard/Unified, have you added the RED Network you have created to the allowed Wireless Networks list inside the Global Configuration under Wireless Protection?
    3. If all the above is ok, does the AP actually work when plugged into the same network as the UTM with the UTM as the default gateway?

    Hope that helps!

  • Emile....thank you for the quick response.  Yes the RED10 is setup as Standard/Split (it has been functioning correctly since it was put in place over two weeks ago).  In the past (because of ease of installation) we have used AP's from UBNT, but during my last conversation with our REP, was informed that a Sophos AP would be a "plug and play" installation on a RED device.  What are the steps to add an AP15???

  • Hi Matt,

For a Standard/Split network you will need to do the following:

    1. Go to RED Management
    2. Edit the RED Configuration that applies to your RED 10
    3. Add to the Split Networks the IP Host which has an IP Address of 1.2.3.4
    4. Save it and await the RED box to download the new configuration file
    5. You did not state your RED box has a separate subnet range so I will assume you have, go to Wireless Protection
    6. Under Global Configuration, click on the folder for allowed networks and add the Green REDInterfacename (Network) object to the Drag and Drop section to allow APs in the RED network to talk to the UTM.
    7. After a short period you should see the AP pop up in the pending devices.

    Hope that helps!
