Wireless MAC list

hi scott,

By adding the MAC Address we suppose to connect to AP without asking for a password is that correct?

And those who are not listed on the MAC address list cannot connect even they know the password of the AP?

  • I've split this post into a new thread, as it has noting to do with the topic of the original thread, DHCP and APs.

  • "By adding the MAC Address we suppose to connect to AP without asking for a password is that correct?" No, that is not correct. From the built-in help: " To restrict the MAC addresses allowed to connect to this wireless network, select Blacklist or Whitelist. With Blacklist, all MAC addresses are allowed except those listed on the MAC address list selected below. With Whitelist, all MAC addresses are prohibited except those listed on the MAC address list selected below." With whitelist, only those clients with MAC addresses listed will be able to connect to SSIDs on the UTM. They will still need to know the password you've set for the SSID to authenticate.

"And those who are not listed on the MAC address list cannot connect even they know the password of the AP?" Correct, see above.

Password phrase and MAC address filtering are usually combined like:
    - No Encryption with MAC filtering.
    - Password plus MAC filtering.
