PPPoE on VLAN - impossible in UTM?

I am trying to set up a Sophos UTM machine with one NIC and three VLANS:

VLAN 2 = LAN
VLAN 3 = ISP via PPPoE
VLAN 4 = ISP via regular ethernet.

This setup works just fine in pfSense, but in Sophos, even though the menu options and functions seem to be there, I get an error message "Interface type requires exclusive access to the network interface" when I am trying to set up the VLAN 3 connection.

Here is a screenshot:

Is this really limitation of Sophos UTM 9.4, or am I just doing something wrong?

  • Hi Lock,

If you check the help doc for UTM; in the interface> Ethernet section it states: For an external connection (e.g., to the Internet) choose the network card with SysID eth1. Please note that one network card cannot be used as both an Ethernet interface and a PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE DSL) or PPTP over Ethernet (PPPoA DSL) connection simultaneously.

    Hence, not possible.
