RED devices per UTM - Limit/Maximum Number

Hello folks,

Is there a limit (maximum number) of RED devices you can attach per UTM?

Only documentation I've found with a similar information was under the Partner Portal, in the link below, which states a Recommended number of RED devices per UTM in regards to sizing but there is no information implying a maximum limit.

Best Regards,

  • In response to this thread, you have given the recommendations to physical devices so the question in reverse would be ....

If I am connecting 100 REDS, each with a maximum 5 Mbps (average1Mbps) back to a hosted virtual appliance, what should the specifications be on the virtual appliance?

  • Hi Stephen and welcome to the UTM Community!

That depends on what else the UTM is doing.  I recommend that you work on this with a Sophos presales engineer and that you work via email so that Sophos' recommendation is written.

Each RED tunnel uses as many resources as an SSL VPN tunnel.  My guess is that, to be safe, you would want 12 cores and 24GB of RAM, but, again, ask Sophos.

    Cheers - Bob
