Detailed reporting on what's causing service interruptions - 3rd party tool required?

Hi,

We have several locations, all linked with Sophos UTM V9 devices.

We run Skype for Business across these VPN links.  We are experiencing interruptions in service, (pausing / freezing / dropouts).  Not all the time, but often enough to be unacceptable to rely on the service.

We contacted our ISP's for our locations and have been checking / testing our internet links.  We had no issues.

The IT department has been tasked with isolating and curing these dropouts.  Is there some sort of monitoring / reporting tool I can use to find these dropouts / interruptions?

They are completely random in nature - and they don't happen often enough to be able to predict.

Thanks for your time - I appreciate any advice you can give.

Regards

  • You can only do so much with QoS in the UTM.  It's difficult to do real-time things when the ISP's pipe can be filled by one person downloading a file.  Depending on your ISP's capabilities, they might be able to do QoS in their network for traffic being routed to you.  It's probably less expensive to get a second connection and then use the approach cited in Auto-Failover IPsec VPN Connections to separate the Skype traffic from other downloads.
