UTM 9.4 with STAS (yet another STAS Thread)

Hello everybody,

today was the first time that I implemented the new STAS from UTM 9.4 at a costumers Network.

As I tested a little bit, everything worked well as exspected. Things I did during the configuration.

-Install STAS Suite on first DC and did some changes with IP Ranges and UTM Ip Adress

-I disabled Logoff detection and set dead entry timeout at 10 hours, so everything is resetted on next business day

-Install STAS Agent on second DC and put in IP address of first DC (STAS Collector)

As far as good... everything worked well. I can see Users logged on over DC1 AND DC2 on the STAST Collector in the advanced tab.

BUT the view in the UTM is completely useless in my opinion. If I am lucky I can see Live Users in the UTM under "Definitions & Users" -> "Client Autentication" -> "Global" but some time I can't see online users and I can't authenticate with STAS.

Can anybody confirm this behaviour? If STAS is not reliable, how should implement it without any trouble?

kind regards

Tobi

  • i can confirm this - i have opened a ticket @sophos with this and some other questions to STAS (authentication services restarts periodicaly since activation of STAS, problems with test the connectivity to the agents, ...)

i will post any helpful answers from the support here :)

  • I can also confirm similar issues,I have logged the issue with support to no avail . I'm seeing the following in the application event log of any server that has STAS installed , it seems the 32 bit components of STAS are in conflict with the 64 bit components running on the DC's.

Activation context generation failed for "c:\program files (x86)\Sophos\sophos transparent authentication suite\STAS_Setup.exe.Manifest".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.9200.17359_none_4188b989718cf1c6.manifest. Component 2: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.9200.17359_none_8935f06086091acc.manifest.

    Anyone else getting this?

  • Hi Tobi,

If the issue is intermittent, I will require logs to investigate further. Next time when you face an issue in authenticating with STAS, please post the following information; stas.log, aua.log, which user is facing the issue and the exact timestamp.

    Thanks
