Sophos UTM & D-Link DWR-921 4g router, not acquiring correct DG?

I just purchased a DLINK DWR-921 for its 4g ability + Antennas.  But I have it in Bridge mode so it should act like a 4g modem, it works but the issue im having is on the UTM Interfaces I have a seperate Ethernet interface for this.  When I use DHCP mode it gets the right IP address but it doesnt get the right Default Gateway, its always the same as the IP.  The only way i can get a connection to work is to manually enter the IP and DG, but its not static its dynamic so as you can imagine i have to change it often.  This isnt any use to me unless it can acquire the IP automatically, I know the Dlink works as on a windows PC it either picks up the correct DG or uses 0.0.0.0 as the DG but either way it works fine.  So its only when connected to our UTM that it doesnt acquire the correct addresses via DHCP.

Anyone got any ideas as to why this maybe, of course Dlink Support says to contact Sophos but i am using the UTM home licence so this is as much help as i can get.

Why wouldnt my UTM acquire the correct DG off the 4g modem?

Thanks

JK

  • DLINK says that its a sophos problem, they tested the DWR-921 in transparent bridge mode on a PFSENSE router and its the same on that it uses the same address for IP4 & DG,  they say i need a floating rule?

How can i get this to work with my UTM if the UTM is getting the same address for IP4 & DG?

    Thanks

  • John, if the DG is always the same and is within the subnet assigned to the interface, what happens if you set a Static Gateway Route to it for all "Internet" traffic?

  • Problem is this is the 2nd WAN int?  Also i still get error on Int with same Ip4 & DG.

  • Ive not been able to get traffic flowing via this int unless i set the correct ISP DG address.

I cant see why its not getting the right DG address from the DWR-921.

  • This is what happens, the DWR-921 has a transparent bridge mode which i assumed was like Modem mode which passes through the 4g IP, DG & SM to the device connected to it.  But what actually happens is the IP & SM is passed through but not the DG, on a windows machine it shows a DG as 0.0.0.0 but it still works somehow.  However on Sophos UTM it uses the same address as the IP4 address for the DG with the correct SM.  But ive not been able to get an internet connection to work on UTM with that address.  The only way i can is to manually set the DG which is shown on the DWR-921 for the 4g connection, then it works but we cant get a static IP on 4g so this is a problem unless I can get it to work using the DG being the same as the IP4.

Any ideas?  DLink says they tried it on PFSENSE and it worked with same IP & DG, but they had to create a floating rule??

    Thanks

  • This is DLINK reply

On pfSense it gets same IP for gateway and host. On pfSense workaround is to create floating rule on WAN interface permiting all traffic but it's not stable solution and I'm not sure how this would be done in Sophos UTM. You should conntact Sophos support on how to perform this on your appliance.

    Kind regards,

I cant see this as being a solution, surely its a DLINK problem in that its not passing on the correct DG to a device connected to there router?
