  • Hi Thank you for your input,

I'm new to this stuff but I would give this a go.

I have a Virgin Super hub2, which is placed into modem mode. this opens one port at the back of the virgin router to be plugged else where. I have plugged this in to my host server which host's VMware workstation where UMT is configured. I have Assigned one nic on my server for the WAN which is this cable coming from the Virgin Super Hub Modem Port. Along with this I have config another nic on my host server as LAN, Which is where a cable is leaving this nic to be connected to my central Switch. Which has no VLAN very basic setup. This is than connecting all devices to network.

My trouble is i'm not very good with VMWare and virtual stuff. However With in VMware workstation when installing UMT I create two Network Cards and than with in VMware network management I assigned Vnet0 to the WAN nic on the host and Vnet 8 to the LAN nic on the host.  When setuping up UMT having issues with some UPlink where the they are showing but not really working. I have setup the nat masquerade, Also set the UMT as DHCP, Set the DNS, saw a 5 min Youtube video to config. That is all I know so far.

My confusing bite is, The VMware Network card connecting to the host NIC's Not sure how this should be done and how do I than do it within UMT setup please help.

Also when you put the Virgin Router in Modem mode it changes the gateway from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.100.1 would this be a issue. what LAN ip range do I use. at the moment my lan ip range is 192.168.0.X

  • Can you post a diagram of your network setup? It's not very clear how you have everything connected.

  • I  have responded on the post Bob ,

    Thank you

  • I have installed the utm edition however can't get the web filter or any of it features to be working. I'm using vmware workstation on with 4, cpu and 4 gb ram and two nics., they are both on bridge mode to the host. I have virgin as the isp have turned off the virgin router firewall and my onsite window server 2012 r2 firewall. This is first time i am installing this. I tried finding info online apparently there used to be iso image which doesn't exist any more so someone help me with setting up this on my home network which has one isp router plus one standard cisco manage switch with no vlan

Please help me to understand what I need to do before install of UTM in terms of network. I have a virgin super hub, with a switch which is plugged into and this is than plugged to all devices etc.

I am using VMware Workstation not sure how the nics should be configured. New this stuff. I have currently assigned two nics on install with bridge mode not sure how the VMware config is done with virtual switch etc.. I can see Wan up and Lan in UMT with ip address but non of the machines on the network are seeings the changes as in I have tested the web protection doesn't work but with UMT test policy it shows blocked as it should. Please advise kindly

    Thank you
