how to login using root

Hi all,

i can't login using root user always i got "Login Incorrect". i tried to reset password using this method Recover access to your Sophos UTM in the event of password loss   to change the password  , but after changing the password  i got the same error   "Login Incorrect"  [:S]

    i had no access to webadmin. Wanted to login via console. No luck (forgot passwords).
    Ok, reset via "init=/bin/bash".
    Does not work. Either root nor loginuser. Login incorrect.
    Tried at least 10 times. One time i was able to login with loginuser, but no su/sudo later.
    Ok, booted from linux live CD, mount sda6, chroot, passwd.

    Finally logged in. cc RAW system_password_reset. Success!

    Now... can somebody explain this? ))) ASG was kinda ill
