How to obtain other versions of UTM and XG/XGS firmware manually

Hi all

I've rewritten this to be more to the point and assist those who are struggling to find ISOs and Patches of older versions of both UTM and XG/XGS.

Originally, I couldn't find them other than just the current ISO release which can complicate restorations from backups if your backup firmware version is different to that of the downloadable ISO.

Apologies it covers XG/XGS in the UTM forum as well, if you wish for me to post the XG/XGS part in the XG/XGS then I will.

CREDITS - Dirk and Amodin for posting very useful links which allows you to obtain not only the current release but also previous firmwares so I can't take credit for this at all

I've summarised this below

Sophos UTM full installer – This rebuilds the UT

https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/downloads/utm-downloads

This link allows you to obtain the firmwares inbetween major ISO releases

https://ftp.astaro.com/#UTM/v9/up2date/

Sophos XG/XGS Installer - This rebuilds the XG/XGS

https://www.sophos.com/de-de/support/downloads/firewall-installers

Sophos XG/XGS Old firmwares/Patches

Sign in to Sophos - "licenses & Account", select "Network Protection", here you find "Firmware updates"

OR

https://download.sophos.com/network/SophosFirewall/installers/index.html

Many thanks

  • Ahhh look at that, https://ftp.astaro.com/#UTM/v9/up2date/

Thats what I was use to seeing on the old version

is there an XG and XGS version of this?

    Im glad im wrong here

  • Hello,

for UTM they moved the "old" ftp-server to a cloud server, which has the URL you already found.

for XG/XGS you have to go here: https://www.sophos.com/de-de/support/downloads/firewall-installers

  • Thank you, its not really an acceptable answer when you have a customer offline due to a failure and you're waiting on community response with the firmware. It seems the only answer here is to either

    1) Keep all XG and XGS at the same build as to what is available on that link

    2) As from now onwards keep all the updates released on that link ourselves for that just in case moment.

I do appreciate your replies though

  • Keep all XG and XGS at the same build

Sorry, but why XG / XGS now?

You ask for firmware "9.711-5 until they release ISO 9.712-12" which are UTM firmware versions ... and you are within the UTM Forum here.

BTW: the minor XG-Firmware updates you find within your mysophos-portal ...

  • Sorry my fault for not explaining further. Im a silver partner and we have UTM, XG and XGS customers and happen to notice the issue first with UTM firmware and then it was an after thought on XG and XGS.

  • Apologies for asking but where in the Sophos portal for minor XG and XGS firmware, I must be blind but I cant find it. Im just hoping this may help others too

  • Buddy, if you want the free help offered in the Sophos Community, you need to show a little respect.

This is your first thread in the UTM Community - should this thread be moved to the Sophos Firewall (XG) Community?

  • If you would take some time to look at the very link you posted, you might actually be able to figure out how to get those other ISO files.  It took me about 30 seconds.

Tact.  I'd suggest it in the future, because your original post was really more of a rant than a question, and all of your subsequent posts are spinning in circles.  If you are a Silver Partner, you would know exactly how to obtain what you need, know what to do with it and where to go from there.

  • Brilliant, thank you Dirk for taking the time with my query.

@Amodin - Thank you for your comment, apologies I came across like that, personally I didn't think I did as I was trying to explain what I was hitting and my concerns were should a customer have a failed firewall. In a situation like that, where HA isn't available due to budget, the customer as you can imagine applies a lot of pressure. What I didn't want to be involved in is a situation where I can't locate the firmware and time is ticking to recover them.

I hope my question and Dirk's answer helps others who may not be able to locate them so easily.

  • I'd keep this link if you are looking for XG ISOs.  Sophos Firewall HW, SW and VM Installers
