20MHz und/oder 80Mhz Band in Wireless Protection auf Ap100c aktivieren

Hallo zusammen,

im Bereich "Sophos Wireless" im Thread "AP100c >>> "SSH could not reach the selected AP"  diskutiert und auch schon Hilfe von eienm Sophos Technician hier aus dem Forum erhalten.

Ein Forum User meinte, ich soll mein Problem - da es wohl ein UTM Thema ist - auch nochmal hier posten. Was ich hiermit getan habe. Vielleicht hat ja jemand eine Llsung für mein Problem.

Ich betreibe zuhause eine Sophos SG105W und habe mir die Tage wegen der besseren Ausleuchtung und Reichweite den AP100C zugelegt und bei mir auch in Betrieb genommen und getestet.

Als ich merkte, dass ich vom Durchsatz bei Leibe keine 1,3MBit/s hin bekomme (ja, das bekomme ich auch im Idealfall nicht hin) sondern nur magere 150-200MBit/s habe ich mich gewundert.

In den Einstellungen habe ich nach Überprüfung der WLAN Kanäle schnell festgestellt, dass ich nur das 20MHz Band angeboten bekomme aber weder das 40MHz noch das 80MHz Band.

Über "cc" (siehe mein anderes Posting) habe ich  mit Unterstützung eines Sophos Technician herausgefunden, was, wie und wo ich das 40MHz bzw. 80Mhz band in der UTM einstellen kann.

Fakt ist jedoch - und daher mein Posting hier - ich bekomme keine 40MHz und auch keine 80MHz Kanäle angezeigt. Ich kann die Kanäle in der Konfig auch nicht ergänzen. Das übernimmt er nicht.

Hat das schon mal jemand erfolgreich umgesetzt (nicht zwingend mit dem AP100C sondern generell)? Dann würde es mich interessieren, wie ihr die fehlenden Kanäle in die Liste bekommen habt.

    I need to confirm, but if the AP is located in Europe, I think by regulations it won't show the additional channels for the 5GHz band.

    You could try testing by changing to USA one the AP to test!

    thanks for replying to this post. As far as I can say (bcos you already helped me in the "Sophos wireless" section) you're doing a great job helping us here in the community forum. Unfortunately the 5GHz 80MHz channels (see picture I posted above) are the 5GHz 80MHz channels which are allowed in Germany specifically. So the must be available in the UTM to be choosen are selected automatically. Unfortunately they are not available. What is wondering me in the first place bcos I wondered why companies who are paying for the support are not having the same issue and are complaining. Is no professional company using the 40MHz or 80MHz band and channels in Germany?

    So please let us know whether this is a bug (what should it be elsewise?) and an update will be available who will fix
    this erros so that we can see the channels after altering the "channel_width11a" in "cc" from "HT40" to "VHT80".

    Wir als Sophos Kunden brauchen eine offizielle Lösung / Stand der Dinge für die oben beschriebene Situation.

    Why does Sophos work now with private Messages in this case?

    Sophos customers need a official solution in general for this described situation.

  • Ganz einfach. Weil er mich darum bat, dass ich ihm Remote-Support-Zugriff auf mein System gebe, damit er sich das anschauen und Screenshots machen kann. Und die Remote-Support-ID poste ich natürlich nicht hier. Wink Sobald ich eine Antwort von ihm erhalten habe (sollte er sie nicht hier posten) dann schreibe ich das Ergebnis natürlich hier, damit jeder was davon hat.   • Can somebody please confirm, which MHz frequency range is used, if you change to 40/80 MHz? 

    As my understanding, the Channels share the same "starting point". Your screenshots indicates this. Channel 36 for example starts at the same frequency range as 38 (for 40MHz) and 42 (for 80 MHz). Likely UTM is simply pumping up this frequency range to the proper MHz range. 

    As i cannot confirm this right now (iOS simply does not have the option to see the frequency range), maybe somebody with an Android can verify, which band is used?

    36 uses 5170 - 5190 

    38 uses 5170 - 5210

    42 uses 5170 - 5250

    So there would be no issue, if UTM uses 5170 to 5250 band, after selecting 36 as base channel. 

    Sophos wireless solution is based on OpenWRT. There are some posts about this:

  • Thanks for the informtion. But IMO Sophos should update the channl list if 40MHz, 80MHz or 160MHz is enabled.

    So the system should directly list the fitting channels for 40MHz, 80MHz or - where permitted - the 160MHz band.

    If I didn't misunderstood emmosophos he will deliver a fix for that issue to me or a regular fix will fix it for everyone.

    80 MHz means up to 80 MHz. So, you operate on 20 MHz for the beacons etc (Because some devices are only capable on 20 MHz). Then based on the capability of the client, you can transmit rates of 40 MHz (different centre freq) or 80 MHz (different centre freq). As an example: even though you operate on 80 MHz, you need to choose a channel (36 or 40 or 44 or 48) even though all of them belong to the same 80 MHz spectrum. This is because the chosen channel will be the primary channel. If you choose 36 for example, when you use a 40 MHz rate, you will transmit in the 36-40 combined bandwidth. If you choose 44 for example, when you use a 40 MHz rate, you will transmit in the 44-48 combined bandwidth. You will transmit in 44 when you use 20 MHz rates. And you will use all 4 when you transmit in the 80 MHz rates. Hence, if you take a look at the access point configuration page of Sophos or any vendor, the list of channels displayed will be the primary channels and not the centre frequency of the combined channel width,

You're not able to choose an individual 40MHz or 80MHz or - to say it clear - you cannot see whether the 40MHz or 80MHz channel was select and is in use because you only see "36". If that's the case you are not able to verifiy that you operate on 40Mhz or 80Mhz. Sophos should over each channel in the list so that the AP reflects the channel in use. And if you see "38" you know that you are connect through 40MHz and if you see "42" you know tat you are usinga 80MHz channel right know. That is what I excect. Knowing that Sophos is currently evaluating this issue shows that even they are not aware of this. So even they are confused. So it's understandable that users are confused even more. Sophos should reprogramm this so that 20MHz, 40MHz, 80MHz or even 160Mhz can be easily setup by offering the corresponding 20MHz, 40MHz, 80MHz and 160MHz channels if on of those additional bands are activated.

    That is not how the 802.11ac standard works.The administrator must designate which 20 MHz segments within a 40, 80, or 160 MHz wide channel is the primary 20 MHz channel. This channel forms the core frequency segment that the BSS or AP radio operates on. The BSS will then automatically designate the primary 40 MHz and primary 80 MHz channels by extending the primary 20 MHz channel.

    802.11ac allows per-frame channel width as well. Meaning, the same client can transmit one frame in 80Mhz and the next frame in 40Mhz based on the prevalent RF conditions like co-channel interference or SNR. So, you cant have an "80Mhz" only mode where you set the secondary channels directly.
