[8.285][BUG][OPEN] Postfix fatal errors

Hi, I am getting my daily reports etc so didn't think nothing of this but I have

repeated almost every minute in my notifier log.

gatekeeper:/var/log # grep size_limit /etc/postfix/main.cf
message_size_limit = 52428800

I further researched the origin and it seems the error started upon installation of 8.280 which had broken database. However it hasn't been fixed since. Maybe a fresh install will fix it. If its not something obvious, it may be related to the broken 8.280 release. If there is still time in this beta, we can wait till the next beta release and I can do a fresh install if necessary.

I googled the problem and it seems that there is an error.
gatekeeper:/var/log # postconf message_size_limit
message_size_limit = 52428800
gatekeeper:/var/log # postconf mailbox_size_limit
mailbox_size_limit = 51200000
gatekeeper:/var/log #

So the mailbox size is indeed smaller than the message size[;)]

On the 'Advanced' tab, in 'Advanced settings', what do you have for 'Max message size'? That should be 50MB. If you change it to 48MB, does this problem go away?

I can confirm Bill's implication that the same 52428800/51200000 is in 8.202.

Hi Bob thanks for the confirmation. With 8.2 release, to keep administrative mail separate from regular mail, the admin notifications are sent via postfix and all your other mail is still handled by exim (therefore the message size limit in the advanced tab will have no effect on admin notifications)

I believe you will have the same error message if you open your "admin notifications" log via webadmin.

To fix the problem, I edited the main.cf file
joe /etc/postfix/main.cf

and changed the value of message_size_limit to a little less than the mailbox size. Then I restarted postfix by
/etc/init.d/postfix restart

Problem fixed.
