Did a clean install and wanted to do a restore from a backup, but the new version wont allow an older backup
*****Update****
The problem was the number of nics in the new installation, I forgot to add 1 nic and the restore wasn't possible.

I will contact you on PM.
Please share the backup
Hello deeptibhavsar
Out of my head:
- I registered the v16
- I tried the restore option during the initial config wizard steps on v17, but failed.
I shut down in the meantime v16 as I plan a migration from UTM to v17
(and finally configured the v17 from scratch again after failing to restore the config from v16 to v17).
Hi,
Have you registered the SF16.5 MR7 and SF 17 Beta VM or you have done Registration Skip.
Hello deeptibhavsar
Well, the users (also myself) tried the correct path as I read above:
- Backup a config from v16 and try to import/restore it to v17 Beta
================================
Hi Suzzyx
Its the same issue I got when I tried to restore a backup from a vm running version 16.5 MR7 to a vm running v17 beta.
================================
I tried the same:
- Set up a v16 from scratch on a VM
- Backup/Export the config
- Set up a v17 beta from scratch, also on a VM
- Try to import/restore the v16 config
=> Error message...
I would expect that an upgrade from v16 to v17 would be possible by setting up a new VM (v17) and restore a v16 config ?
Many thanks
Daniel
Hi,
As per PM, The backup restore will is not working from SFOSv17 to SFOSv16
We do not support any kind of configuration restore from higher version of firmware to lower version of firmware
Do the vm have the same number of nics installed?
Tried a backup/restore yesterday and it only worked if it has the same number or more.
ok,. then this is like " start from scratch and test it " , from other solutions like fortigate , you have a tool to "transform" backup with differents versions to make it compatible.. well , thanks anyway for your time answering, have a nice day...
regards
your welcome for your answer, but not, i got "API Import Fail" message, thanks anyway !
