It seems that the issue with the migration of the configuration is related to the VLANs that are running properly on XG v16.05 MR7. In my case I have running VLANs over a LAG (Link Aggregation Group), in your case SebL, you have several VLANs over same ethernet Port and in DirkJung case he is running VLAN for the WAN interface.

If it looks like a bug, smells like a bug, and feels like a bug, you don't have to actually eat it to know it's a bug.

I made some other tests and it appears that if an interface has VLANs, the configuration migration will fail. In my case, it is on the Port1 interface where I have 3 different VLANs connected to a trunk port on my switch.

The Port2 config was there but nothing else and Port1 IP address was 172.16.16.16.

Hi suzzyx,I´m not the expert so I don´t know what a LAG ist.

But I think the problem is the VLAN.

In my Configuration Port 2 is the WAN Port. Here in Germany I have the TELEKOM as ISP with fiber to the home. There four I need an VLAN TAG. With the XG you can´t configurate the WAN Port with VLAN TAG. The solution is an seperate WAN as PORT 2.1 VLAN with the needed TAG Nr. 7.

There was no error message. I load the backup, does a reboot and nothing happend. Access only about 172.16.16.16. I reboot with the old firmware, everything was ok. My configuration is back-

Dirk, you described step by step my issue trying to upgrade my home system to XG17 Beta. Do you have a LAG interface and VLANs over that LAG?

When your backup file was no accpeted do you get a error message or the backup simply loads as expected and when the device reboot the configuration f the backup isn't applied?

Here the the same thing. 

I Take the SW-SFOS_17.0.0_Beta-1.SFW-32.gpg to update my Sophos XG home (one hardware) from SFOS 16.05.6 MR7 to SFOS 17.0 beta. I load it on my device.

After reboot my configuartion was gone. I must take the 172.16.16.16 IP to come on webinterface and make a fresh install. The backup file was load to the device but was not be accepted.

When I´m in webinterface I reboot the machine with the old SFOS 16.05.6 MR7 firmware. My Configuration is back an the sophos home runs normal.

I tried both options including a direct upgrade with the update file without success.
My box runs on an ESXi.
