Difference between SFOS 16.01 and 16.05

Hi,

Can someone explain me the difference between SFOS 16.01 and 16.05 releases ?

They seem to evolve independently. In the SFSO UI in "Latest Available Firmware" there is a field "GA" and "MR" and no explanations.

In MySophos in the download section they are listed without distinction ...

If I install "SFOS 16.01.4 MR-3", the 16.05 version does not show anymore in the available list. I tried to figure it out with Google help without success.

So : What dos it mean ? What's the difference ? Which must I use and why ?

  • Hi,

    I have the exact same question and although the reply from lferrara is marked as the "Suggested Answer" in my humble opinion, it still doesn't answer the question; What does "GA" and "MR" mean? And if you don't use Sandstorm, should I still go for the 16.05 or just stay with the 16.01.

    I am running an XG 115 with 16.01.1 and I have HW-SFOS_16.05.2_MR-2.SF300-160 (GA) and HW-SFOS_16.01.3_MR-2.SF300-265 (MC) available. Which one to choose and why?

    Recently became a Sophos Partner but still developing my skills in the XG and UTM platforms, so any help on this matter would be much appreciated :-)

  • Patrick,

    GA stands for General Available and it is a release that is very stable (to be used in production);

    MR: Major Release includes fixes that were not fixed/addressed before the release of GA

    MC: Major candidate ????

    AFAIK RC exists and it is a release (beta) that is released to users in order to test them before the GA.

    Hope this help!
