Before a hardware upgrade, you may need to check if 1000mbps NIC cards are necessary or not. If your ISP is <100MBPS then it won't make much of a difference.

Sounds like you are using legacy Nics in your vm, you can change the Nics by adding a new hardware and choose nic.

You have to shutdown and delete the old ones first before adding a new one.

You don't need to use generation 2 vm to have synthetic nic on Hyper-v
They work on generation 1 and generation 2
