xgs 3100 firewall an new AP6 Series questions

Hi,

The access points of the APX series are end-of-sale on March 31, 2023.

The new AP6 can no longer be managed centrally via the firewall, here an XGS 3100.
The new AP6 series is only configured via Sophos Central or stand alone.
In addition, there will probably be additional license costs for each AP6 access point.

Did I understand that correctly?
Maybe someone can explain to me why the new AP6 cannot be managed via the firewall?
What is the meaning behind it?
Will the AP6 be manageable later over the xgs/firwall?
What happens to the existing APX access points when they reach end-of-life on December 31, 2027?
Can they no longer be used afterwards?

first, thanks for the quick response.
The thing with the APX is known.
But why can't the AP6 be managed in the xgs firewall and only via sophos Central?

Is this not technically possible or is it a sales strategy to push Sophos Central?
I have over 50 APX here. If I buy more APX here, they will be end-of-life in 3 years, 2027.
What then? Can I continue to use the APX or do I have to replace all APX with AP6?

The AP6 will be managed via Sophos Central only, besides local management of the AP, there are no plans of managing AP6 from firewall.

AP6 is completely differently build compared to APX. The difference is completely how to interact with the AP6. Therefore Sophos build Sophos Central to be the management platform for all products, including Wireless.

AP6 is similar to Sophos Switch - They have an own webadmin, and can be managed via Central Centralized.

Hi Vivek Jagad ,

AP6 sales started in September 2023. We have around 50 APX access points so far. Since the APX is out-of-sale you will have to buy AP6.
I then have two interfaces to manage the access points.
APX in the firewall and AP6 in Sophos Central.
This makes it more complicated and vulnerable.
And license costs are now due for WiFi access points?
Is this Sophos' strategy for me as a customer?

Sophos APX can be managed for free in Sophos Central. You can migrate the APX to Central and use Central for everything.

AP6 will introduce a Central Wireless Subscription for the support (like Sophos Switch) for management.

Yes, but this means I have a web admin for the XGS firewall for the APX and one for the AP6 with Central.
More work, more logins, more effort.
And more costs for AP6 licenses.
That's how it is, isn't it?
Can you still use the APX after the end of life in 2027?

With end-of-life, no support will be provided in case of any issue requiring break-fix or troubleshooting, but you can continue to use the APX...

Thanks for the information.
Then in the future the firewalls will no longer manage WiFi access points but only in Sophos Central?
So is Sophos going this route of managing everything in the cloud?
The advantage so far has been to manage everything internally in a web interface with the firewall.

The advantages of Central is, you manage all Sophos products over there. So to speak, you move from Firewall to Central and include a huge potion of new products. This is actually the most liked point about Central, that this console offers the full set of product support.
