WAN Port not recognized on ZBOX CI323 with Sophos XG 18.0 MR6

I use a ZBOX CI 323 with XG 17.5, which works flawlessly, but I can't upgrade to the newer 18.0, since this version will not recognize the second LAN port on the device, which is used for WAN access. Using a USB LAN adapter also won't work. Anyone have recommendations, how to get the newer version working?

  • The configuration was taken from 17.5 successfully. Restoring the backup won't make a change. I think 18.0 just doesn't like the networking hardware anymore.

My main problem is, as soon.as I start playing around with v18 my home network is offline.. my next steps would be to log into v18 via SSH and try to find out how the network hardware is recognized and try to find a solution here, probably a configuration needs to be adapted. But I ain't no Linux expert.

  • From what I have learned from other postings and similar problems, Sophos XG no longer seems to support the used network chipset for the second port in v18. I fear I either have to live with 17.5 or change the firewall software..

  • Hi,

I checked the website and could not identify the NICs. If XG works with v17 then there should not be an issue with v18 or v19. The current version of XG does not support intel NIC series i219. i225 or i226.

  • Is it possible that the WAN and LAN port got swapped during the update? When you go to the black and white "installation" screen (for lack of a better word) of the XG install, and go to the network configuration, does anything show in the WAN_GW and LAN IP configuration area?

Online search suggests it uses Realtek NICs

  • I have checked a number of sites and none are very helpful other than it has NICs,

  • Just curious why the OP went for the v18 of SFOS and not the latest 19.5. Maybe try v19.5.2?
