XG Firewall faile to boot on Openstack

I'm trying to deploy a Sophos Virtual Appliance KVM on Openstack.

But boots with this message. I used the cqow2 image for KVM

Disk detection issue: Auxiliary disk is missing or wrong detection
Doing Appliance Specific Setting
Loading firstboot configuration
Installing default config
swapon: /dev/swap: Invalid argument
firstboot failed: swapon /dev/swap
ERROR: firstboot Failed

  • From the error message you might need to attach a second disk to the instance?

I also got a Sophos XG running on a openstack instance.
For this I use the ISO image and installed this on a attached disk.

Then I created a new instance and used the previous attached disk as boot image.

  • Hi Blao,

Sorry what .ISO did you use?

  • I never used that page.

Got it from this link: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/downloads/firewall-installers

"Software Installers: Firewall OS Software ISO for Intel Hardware"  which has this filename: "SW-19.5.1_MR-1-278.iso"

To be more clear on how I installed it.

Create a new instance on the openstack with the right amount of nics. (First attach the internal nic and secondly the wan interface. and then more if needed)

Use the iso as boot volume

Attach a volume disk to this instance on which you will install the sophos OS. So think good about the size you need because this will be the boot volume.

Now boot this instance and install the Sophos XG OS.

After the install is completed and you get the message the system will reboot, stop the instance and delete it.

You can do now two things. or you can convert the previously attach disk as bootable image on which you can spawn new instances with. or you can change the volume property and mark the volume as bootable.

Now create a new instance either with the new bootable image or the bootable volume. Make sure you attach the same nics as previously in the same order.

This is how I did it a year ago so it should be something like this.
