i am trying to install a sophos home edition on a HP core i3 desktop machine, i used rufus to burn the img, everytime i turn on the computer, i see a grub rescue>
any support is appreciated

BIOS must be on legacy mode, not UEFI mode. Check this first.

On some of the HP computers, no one is successful in getting the XG to boot even when Legacy mode is enabled. Enabling CSM mode is supposed to help but this other thread recommends editing the custom GRUB boot loader to force the XG to support UEFI bios.
You can try:
1. disable UEFI and Enable Legacy
2. disable secure boot and TPM
3. enable CSM mode
3. what NICs are you using? Which chip sets do they have? They are not supported if they are i219 or i225/i226 based NICs since the XG does not have the correct drivers for them.
