GRE tunnel to ExtraIP block

Hi All,

I'm trying to configure a GRE tunnel on Sophos XG firewall appliance to connect to an extra IP block with various IP addresses.

I've followed various guides to configure the GRE tunnel via command line, and this works. If I do a wireshark I can see my pings to the external IP coming in on the WAN interface via the GRE tunnel.

However, this is where the problem occurs, the traffic is not going back through the GRE tunnel but via the regular WAN interface.

Can anyone tell me how I can force the traffic to go back through the GRE tunnel? To me, there is no interface that I can point to, and I need specific traffic to go through it.

  • Hi Tim Stans

Please share more information about the Firewall or router at another end. Is it like Sophos (at the Head office ) and Sophos (at the Branch office ) ? or Sophos at one location and another end you have a third party router/Firewall?

  • Greetings Bharat J,

I've reviewed the documentation once more and noticed a remark that GRE tunnel is not supported on the WAN interface if PPPoE is configured. In our case, we use this on the Sophos side. So I figure that is why it isn't working.

    Thanks for your help anyway!
