Using a second RED 50 on the same LAN

Hello,

I have a RED 50 that provides a LAN with an IP Range from 10.4.0.1 to 10.4.7.254. But, in some cases, my LAN has been almost saturated, and doesn't accept more IP connections. I have a second RED 50 (not installed), and I would like to use it as an "extension" or "complement" of the first one. Can someone tell me if is that possible? So I want to configure the second RED 50 to increase the IP Range of my LAN, and not to create a second LAN. Is that possible?

why not change the address range to a /23? My apologies, Wrong range suggested.

What will be the IP Range in this case? How many IP Address will I be able to add on my LAN?

Hello Eduardo,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

So currently you have close to 2,032 hosts behind a single LAN network segment (wow)?

As a networking best practice you shouldn't exceed 512 devices by LAN/VLAN.

You can bridge both RED devices, this should allow you to increase the range, not sure if those would be a good idea in your scenario though due to all the ARP traffic that will be going on.

In fact I doesn't have so many hosts. I have divide each range for each kind of device. So I have the 10.4.1.X for residents, 10.4.2.X for mobiles, 10.4.3.X for security cameras and DVR... And I just have the 10.4.7.X for visitors with dynamic IP address, so I want to increase the capacity of IP address for those visitors.

If I bridge both RED devices, what will be the best new IP Range that I can attribute to my LAN? From 10.4.1.x until what range?

What's the limit of hosts connecting to a single RED 50? Thanks for your help!

If I change my LAN to /20, can I use my both REDs in a single LAN (using the second one as a bridge), and configure the IP Range from 10.4.0.X to 10.4.15.X?
