Upgrade SFOS 16.05.3 MR-3 to SFOS 18.5.3 MR3-Build408 or SFOS 19.0.0 GA-Build317

Hello

We have a Sophos XG115 in place running on SFOS 16.05.3 MR-3.

The Firewall itself is showing us Update HW-17.5.16_MR-16.SF300-830 as latest update release.
Unfortunately, we do not have a support subscription fpr In-Product Fimware download.

In MySophos there are only the updates SFOS 18.5.3 MR3-Build408 or SFOS 19.0.0 GA-Build317 available.
For my understanding, the upgrade path does not allow an update to this versions coming from our old firmware.

Could you please give us any advice how to upgrade the firmware due to CVE-2022-1040?
Is it possible to jump directly to one of the downloadable versions or do we have to perform some firmware steps before?
If needed, where can we download an older firmware version?
Are there any major changes or reconfigurations needed between the firmware versions?

Kind regards and thank you in advance

  • Hello there,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

Since you are in a very old Firmware, I would jump first from the suggested download presented to you in the Firewall, before that do a backup of your configuration, then upgrade, once you are in 17.5.16 take another backup, and check if the Firewall shows to you the upgrade to 18.5.3 if not you can go to id.sophos.com >> My Applications >> My Sophos >> Network Protection >> Firmware Updates >> Search by Serial Number (Type your S/N) click Show available Downloads

This would give you the available Downloads for your XG 115, then you can download and update to 18.5.3

    Regards,

  • Hi Emmanuel

Thank you for your fast response and support.
    Sound good to me.

Where do I get firmware version 17.5.16 as manual download?
The lowest version downloadable on MySophos is 18.5.3.
The Version 17.5.16 is not installable on the firewall management itself, so I have to download it anywhere and upload it manually.
Version 17.5.16 is only shown as newer firmware on the firewall but greyed out to install (not licenced to install firmwares that way).

    Kind regards

  • Hello Benjamin,

Are you a home user or just didn't renew your license?

Since you’re in a very old and unsupported Firmware, and most likely you used to have a valid license and that one expired, that is why the version is greyed out, also this might be because 17.5 is EoL as well and only supported for XG 85(w) and XG 105(w) till these hardware models go End-of-Life.

However, you should be able to find the .iso in the following Link

Or you can try to download 18.5.3 from id.sophos.com and install it manually.

  • Hello Emmanuel

    We are a business customer.

I am not sure but seems that we did not renew our license or as you stated, maybe it is just because the version is unsupported.

We decided to secure our management access ofthe firewall and take some other measures in place until we have to renew our firewall itself because of its end of life (latest 2024).

Thank you for your support and kind regards
