Sophos XG controlled WiFi Accesspoints (AP55,AP100) client roaming issues

Hi folks,

in my home environment i have a Sophos XG home  V18.5 mr2 with 2xAP100 and 1xAP55 accesspoints controlled via the XG Firewall.

When i now moving with my devices (iphone, ipad, macbook, notebook,...) around my house, then the devices should be moving to the best reachable AP at the new location. But this is not happening.

As as a example, there is a AP100 in the living room at floor level 0 and a AP55 at floor level 1. when i now move from the living room to the office, then my devices, should roam from the AP100 in the living room to the AP55 in the office, but this is not happening. They are sticking at the Ap100, which is resulting in a poor connection quality.

several FW updates of the APs and the XG are not abele to fix this issue. So i measured my home wifi coverage with a ekahau, this shows me, that the coverage of the wifi is in a very good condition and we should be able to roam from one to another AP without problems.

By the way the AP FW is 11.0.018 for the XG setup.

Two days ago i decided to switch from the XG controlled AP setup to the sophos central controlled setup. Since the APs are controlled with the sophos central, the roaming issues are completely gone. At the Moment the APs are having the v2.3.2 firmware from central installed.

So it looks like, the issue is related to the XG provided AP Firmware.

@Sophos Is this issue also known by sophos, and will be investigated, or can i help to investigate the issue?

This now takes me to my company setup. In our Company we have several sites (over 15) where Sophos UTM managed APs (AP amount is depending on the size of each site from 2 to 80 APs) are installed and active without any roaming issues.

At the moment we are in the planning phase to exchange the UTM AP setup to an XG AP setup. When i think of my home setup roaming issues, then this is not a good option, which is resulting in very big problems with moving equipment like barcode scanners, forklifts, notebooks, mobile devices and so on.

Using the UTMs as they are now is not a option for us, because of centralisation and licensing on the UTM. Also the Central setup brings a huge amount of workload to us, when we switching over to this solution.

Has anyone also roaming problems with Sophos APs controlled by a XG Firewall?
