Hardware Upgrade from XG135 to 136

We purchased a new Sophos XG136 to replace the old model XG135.

We received in the box the XG136 with the firmware version 18.5.0 Build 264.

Our old Sophos XG135 is running the version 18.5.2 MR2 Build 380 .

Trying to restore the configuration of our XG135 to the XG136 the process fails!

"The backup cannot be restored on current firmware"

We updated the Sophos XG136 device to fw18.5.1 MR1 Build 326, the only one appearing.

Again, Trying to restore the configuration of our XG135 to the XG136 the process fails:

"The backup cannot be restored on current firmware"

After the installation of the MR1 the online option for the update of the firmware to the release MR2  does not appear.

Trying to manually upload to the XG136 the firmware MR2 Build 380, we receive this message

"The new firmware could not be uploaded. Please refer to online help for possible reasons"

How can we restore the configuration of our XG135 to the new XG136 in this situation?

Thanks for any support | explanations

  • Hi : Thank you for connecting with Sophos community team. Here once XG136 is upgraded to V18.5 MR2 then you may restore the backup which is in your case failing with an error. Please ensure on XG136 pattern update has been done properly to have IPS version and other patterns. Please download the fresh firmware file from My Sophos by searching with the serial key of XG136 and confirm the status again after the pattern update. If the firmware is still failing we may need to check the required service logs to get more clues and in that case, I would suggest opening a support case to have a further investigation on same.

  • Yes confirmed. We needed to download the firmware18.5 MR2 specific for the hardware of XGS136 to have it applied

downloaded using the serial number of the new one.

    Thanks.
