XGS107 SSD life

My XGS107 has been running for 2 weeks and I found its SSD life has dropped from 100% to 98%. Is it expected? I tried to reduce some logging but it doesn’t help much. It is going to be end of life in less than 2 years

XGS107_SN01_SFOS 18.5.2 MR-2-Build380# smartctl -x /dev/sda
smartctl 7.1 2019-12-30 r5022 [x86_64-linux-4.14.38] (localbuild)

  • How did you come up with the 98% Life time span? Just want to check, but all my appliances have different SSDs.

  • There is a Endurance percentage indicator in the bottom which interpret the SMART values above

    XGS107_SN01_SFOS 18.5.2 MR-2-Build380# smartctl -x /dev/sda | grep Endurance
    0x07 0x008 1 2 --- Percentage Used Endurance Indicator

  • Could it be the initial setup? I use Sophos XG Home. I do see high disk activity during the installation and the initial setup. Maybe monitor for a couple of days and monitor the sector written could change?

  • Unfortunately when I finished configuration and upgraded to MR-2. The percentage was ‘0’. So it has to be related to daily database operations. There are only 3- 4 active users in network and around 10 active IoT devices. I have turn off all logging in firewall including invalid traffic. Only keep webclient and ssl inspection log.

  • Check the total number of the log so far. It could be something on the network that is really chatty. Also, consider setting up a Syslog server to offload the data.

  • We are currently looking into this. Maybe the SMART Value is not accurate. Stay tuned.
