RFC1918 WAN Interface

Hey there!

Simple (and maybe stupid) question:

If I have a network like this:

WAN
|
PPPoE Router
(192.168.1.1)
|
(192.168.1.10) (Zone: WAN, Default gateway 192.168.1.1)
Sophos XG
(192.168.5.1) (Zone: LAN)
|
LAN

(All IPs are with /24 subnet mask)

What will happen on the XG if a Client (e. g. 192.168.5.20) will send a package to 192.168.100.5? Will it dropped by the XG (because the net 192.168.100.0 is unknown) or will it forwarded to the default gateway 192.168.1.1?

Thanks!

  • According to default routing policy of System, System forward to Gateway which is firewall here.

Firewall will check routing table and forward to WAN gateway and ISP discard such traffic as this is private network IP traffic.
