Harware for sophos XG appliance for personal use ?

Hello,

I use a sophos XG for personal use at home, I use 6 interfaces (3 for the wan and 3 for the lan). I have about 60 guests on my lan (home automation, tablet, smartphone and pc).
My XG is on an esxi and I would like a mini pc style physical box.
What material would you advise me?

Thank you

  • I am on a 4G connection with an adsl failover.
My flow is 100 mega going down for 50 mega going up.
It is in anticipation of the arrival of the fiber which should offer me 1 GB going down for 500 mega amount.

Hi Gregory, Thanks for reaching out to Sophos Community.

I have used a Dell Optiplex 7010 with Corei3 3470, 6 GB RAM, and 4x Realtek RTL8111/8168 NICs (1Gbps). It worked well with a 300 up and 100 Down connection with https Decryption turned on along with IPS and Sandstrom.

You can choose any hardware with a quad-core x86 CPU and 6 GB RAM as the home edition is limited to 4 cores and 6 GB RAM. Check out Qotom mini PCs, They're pretty famous amongst home users. Although if you need more NICs, it is better to go with custom hardware which gives you the flexibility to choose your own motherboard with enough PCI-e lanes to cover future NIC Expansions. :)

  • The Qotom devices will probably have issues with the high speed WAN connection, most of the cheaper version run early model Atom or celeron. You will need as advised a high speed quad core CPU and does not need to be i5 or greater.

  • I'm using supermicro e302-9d with proxmox. If you prefer 10 gigabit links (copper or fiber).
