Sophos Home Firewall Questions

Good Day:

I want to setup Sophos home firewall on a laptop with two ethernet ports. The laptop and ethernet ports meet the specs required. Before I go any further, I would like your help in answering the following questions:

1. I have a Netgear R6900P router that has both 2.4G and 5G LANs as well as 2.4G and 5G Guest LANs that I use for my IoT. The router acts as my DHCP server, and is configured with MAC access control. The router is connected to the internet via its WAN port the the Spectrum modem. Can I keep the DHCP and MAC access control on the router if I install the Sophos home firewall?

2. The router has 3 systems attached via the ethernet ports on the back of the router, the rest of my systems (28) are wireless devices. Will the Sophos home firewall support the locally attached systems and the wireless systems?

I apologize if these are stupid questions but this is my first attempt at setting up a firewall. I've been using Sophos Home on all my systems for many years and never had any issues with it.

Respectfully;

Mark K.

  • Hi,

    a laptop is not a good choice for a firewall because you cannot use the inbuilt display, there are no drivers for it in there XG software. You need to connect an external monitor and keyboard.
