PPPOE config on Fritzbox and Sophos XG

Hi all

I want to configure my Fritzbox 7590 as a modem, i did it like this for havin my Public IP on my Sophos XG, i tried like this:
https://emil.network/netzwerk/fritzbox-als-modem-nutzen/ My fritzbox Config:

But I also tried this one:
https://deer-it.de/fritzbox-7412-modem-bridge-mode-pppoe-passthrough/

My Sophos config looks like this:
the credentials (username & password) are those for the Router, right?

i read that the public ip should be recognized automatically but
i also tried to set the public ip on the field "preferred IP" but still no connections from the other ports of the firewall.

If you dont have a solution may also troubleshooting steps would help to find the solution ;)

thanks in advance!

  • Username/Password is the provider credentials. Basically the XG can use PPPoE to login to the ISP network.

You need to configure the router to be a modem bridge.

    https://www.edpnet.be/en/support/installation-and-usage/internet/manage-fritz!box/how-do-i-configure-my-fritzbox-in-bridge-mode.html

Then you need to configure XG as you did but with the provider credentials, which basically should be in some kind of paper or you should have in a online portal. Sometimes you have to register only to get those credentials send to you.

  • Thank you for your reply Toni

i did found the credentials for my Online Account for the Sunrise Portal - i tried it with them but same..

Still no public IP on this port Disappointed  and no internet connection from the other ports, i tried the config of my post and this one:

FYI: The connection from other ports couldnt be the problem because i did give the WAN port a fixe ip from fritzbox which allows the internet connection also from the other ports with the any to any rule.

how you think can i troubleshoot in this case?

  • Check if the Provider use VLAN or not (VDSL). And check why the PPPOE interface is unplugged.

  • i have receive firstly the false login data this is why it couldnt connect.

    it now says "connecting"

does it take some time till it finds the connection?

its still the same config as my first post.

Thank you for your help Toni

    Hi ,

Assuming Fritzbox is currently configured in bridge mode.

Check PPPoE events for interface Port2 under Log viewer > System, apply filter with 'PPPoE'

You can also check packet flow in CLI by following the below steps.

==> Login to SSH > 4. Device Console

    console> tcpdump interface Port2 -e

Please share session output & log viewer snapshot here or in PM.
